InterScan Web Security 5.5 and Advanced Reporting and Management 1.5

Keeping users and systems safe and productive while interacting with the rich content provided over the Internet is vital for today’s organizations. Users increasingly depend on cloud-based applications such as YouTube, Twitter, and Skype to collaborate, communicate, and be more productive. As a result, cybercriminals are targeting the web to launch malware attacks by creating fraudulent sites for phishing attacks, infiltrating reputable web sites or redirecting users to malicious web content – all with the intent of gaining access to your network and stealing data.

Trend Micro™ InterScan Web Security 5.5 provides total visibility into and control over Internet threats and the growing use of cloud-based applications with a virtualized on-premise solution to lower TCO.

Description:

Trend Micro™ InterScan Web Security™ 5.5 dynamically protects against traditional and emerging web threats at the Internet gateway.  Combined with superior anti-malware scanning, real-time web reputation, and flexible URL filtering, new features provide greater visibility into and control over the growing use of cloud-based applications on the network.

What’s New:

  • Application Control:
The Application Control feature automates the discovery of popular Internet applications and allows administrators to control them using policies. Administrators have the capability to Allow, Block, or Monitor over 420 applications in more than 23 categories, including Instant Messaging, Peer-to-Peer and Social Networking. This feature goes beyond traditional URL filtering to identify network signatures – thereby increasing visibility and control over browser and non-browser based application traffic

  • HTTP Inspection:
HTTP Inspection allows administrators to filter web traffic using information in the HTTP protocol.  While not able to provide granular content policies (i.e. DLP), the HTTP Inspection feature can address common use-cases such as:

Blocking content uploads to social networking sites and/or webmail services
    -
Blocking the use of insecure browser versions
    -
Blocking the use of consumer cloud-based archiving services

A powerful filter definition tool allows the administrator to use element of the HTTP protocol can be used to create custom filters.

  • URL Filtering Enhancements
Along with the Allow, Block, Monitor, and Warn actions available for URL Filtering policies, there are two new policy actions: Time Limit and Block with Password Override. These two enhancements combine to help customer more easily replace their existing URL filtering point product for the full-featured IWSVA solution.

    • Time Limit Action for URL Filtering:
This policy action sets a time quota for selected URL categories, limiting the amount of Web browsing for that category within Work and Leisure time segments. One-time extensions to quotas can be granted by administrators to handle exception cases.

    • Password Override:
When a user’s access to a web site is blocked, a password can be entered to grant temporary access to the site. This feature will be popular with education customers who need to enable teachers to temporarily allow students access to certain sites
